Create a new document, set its size to 800 pixels by 350 pixels, and set the color mode to RGB. Next, create a 500px long line, give it a black stroke, and set weight to 10px. Activate the dashed line and set the Dash and Gap values, in this case 5, 3, 1, 8, and 2. Duplicate the line and modify the Dash and Gap values to 2, 4, 6, 1, and 2. Create four more dashed lines and set different values for Dashes and Gaps (3, 1, 1, 4, and 2), (1, 2, 1, 1, and 6), (2, 5, 1, 1, and 8), and (4, 1, 2, 1, and 1).
Make sure Stroke is selected (X toggles between Stroke and Fill) and choose whatever color shades you prefer
To modify pattern dimensions, we need to convert the strokes to solid editable stripes (Users of Adobe Illustrator CS2 and older, use Flatten Transparency command to expand strokes into solid objects, see the first image below). To do this go to Object > Expand, check Fill and Stroke, and hit OK.
Open the Transform Palette, set the Reference Point to middle-top, uncheck Constrain Width and Height Proportions, and set the Height to 200px. Repeat these steps for each set of stripes. Use the Vertical Align Top in the Align Palette (Shift + F7)
